The WellGuesthouse

The Well Guesthouse occupies a building dating to 1658, on the Ridgeway path in Ogbourne St George, four miles from Marlborough on the Downs. Megan and Mike run it as a family concern, with six en-suite rooms in an annex built in 2001 and refurbished in 2023, four of them on the ground floor and pet-friendly. Its name comes from an ancient well set into the restaurant floor, covered with reinforced glass so guests can look down a thirty-metre shaft while eating breakfast. Cyclists riding the Ridgeway or the Marlborough Downs make up a steady share of trade, helped by the guesthouse's position five minutes from the M4 at junction fifteen. It has held a Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice recommendation for the area's guesthouses in every year since 2002, the year the current operation began.
