Tower Cinema

The Tower Cinema stands on Lumley Road, at the corner of Skegness's Pleasure Gardens, close to the town's clock tower from which it takes its name. Local exhibitor Fred Clements opened the original 966-seat cinema in March 1922. A German bomb damaged the building during a matinee in January 1941, and the site was rebuilt to a design by Nottingham architects Alfred John Thraves & Son, reopening in July 1951 with seating for 1,200 across stalls and balcony. In 1984 the stalls became an amusement arcade and the balcony was converted into cinema seating, which was split into two screens in 2003. The Tower now operates as Skegness's own two-screen independent cinema, showing current releases alongside the arcade that occupies the ground floor.
