Twisted Barrel Ale began in 2013 when Chris Cooper started brewing on a 60-litre kit in a garage, styling the operation the UK's first Pico-brewery at a time when it was the smallest commercial brewery in the country. The business moved into FarGo Village on Far Gosford Street in 2015, opening a Tap House alongside the brewing kit, and expanded again in 2017 into premises five times the original size. Cask and keg beers are brewed on site and served fresh in the taproom, with a vegan-friendly food menu alongside them. The Tap House hosts weekly live music, quiz nights, a home brew club and occasional beer and music festivals, drawing a mixed crowd of FarGo Village regulars and beer enthusiasts. Twisted Barrel remains independently owned and brews its full range on the premises rather than contracting out production. It opens Wednesday to Sunday, with food service running until 8pm, or 5pm on Sundays.
