William Lockie has knitted cashmere, lambswool, merino, and geelong wool garments at its mill on the River Teviot since 1874, and the business remains family-run. Many of the mill's workers come from families who have worked there for generations, fully fashioning each garment on frames rather than cutting it from larger panels of fabric. The factory shop at Teviotdale Mills on Commercial Road sells the range direct, including hats, scarves, gloves, and Tweedmill rugs alongside the knitwear. Customers can request a behind-the-scenes video showing the mill in operation. The company supplies knitwear wholesale to retailers worldwide, but the Hawick shop remains the place to buy it straight from the source.
