Jenny Brook Martin, an artist herself, opened Number Four Gallery with her husband Chris Martin at Northfield Farm in St Abbs in April 2006, a few miles along the coast from Eyemouth. The gallery shows painting, printmaking, glass, ceramics, wood and designer jewellery from a changing roster of established and emerging makers, favouring an informal hang over a white-cube approach. Exhibitions change through the year, including a winter show that has featured artists such as Carol Nunan and Ruth Clayton. The gallery runs a reduced schedule in January and February, opening weekends only, before returning to a Thursday-to-Sunday pattern from March through December. Its clifftop village setting, close to the St Abbs Head nature reserve, draws walkers and divers alongside visitors seeking out the art on the walls. The gallery remains independently owned and run by the Martins.
