Bladnoch Distillery has stood on the River Bladnoch outside Wigtown since 1817, making it Scotland's most southerly whisky distillery and one of only a handful remaining in the Lowland style. The site closed in 1993 before Australian entrepreneur David Prior bought it in 2015 and returned it to production in 2017, investing in new stills and a visitor centre. Guided tours run several times a day and take in the warehouses and stillhouse before a tasting of the Lowland single malt. Cafe Melba, within the visitor centre, serves light lunches and cakes alongside a drinks list built around the distillery's own whiskies. The gift shop stocks bottlings across the Bold, Galloway and Spirited ranges. Prior markets Bladnoch as the oldest independently owned Scotch whisky distillery still working.
