Luigi Brucciani came from Tuscany in 1893 and his family has made ice cream on Morecambe Bay ever since; the promenade café opened in 1939, days before the war, and its deco interior has survived substantially as fitted — the building is Grade II listed, and Companies House still shows the shares in Brucciani hands, Cristina and Peter Leo among them, with accounts filed to May 2025. It is the essential seafront institution: an espresso and a vanilla scoop in a room the twentieth century built for exactly that purpose, looking at a bay that has not needed updating either.
