Carmarthen Bay Ferries has run a passenger service across the Towy estuary between Ferryside and Llansteffan since 2018, reviving a crossing that historical records trace back to at least 1170. The operator, a community interest company incorporated in 2017, uses a customised Sealegs amphibious craft able to launch from the beach at low tide as well as run as a conventional boat at high water. Alongside the point-to-point crossing, the crew runs pre-bookable forty-five-minute trips around the estuary, taking in views of Llansteffan Castle and the mudflats where wildfowl gather. The service operates from a single base, Calon y Fferi on Carmarthen Road in Ferryside, and does not run sister crossings anywhere else on the Carmarthenshire coast.
