Andrew Kenny runs Cross of York from the fish stalls at Newgate Market, continuing a business his family began as fishermen in Flamborough before opening this stall in 1957. Kenny started behind the counter straight from school and now holds Master Fishmonger accreditation, having served as president of the National Federation of Fishmongers. The stall is now in its fourth generation, selling cod, haddock, halibut, sea bass, and sole alongside shellfish including lobster, crab, scallops, oysters, and mussels, with local game such as pheasant and partridge available in season. Deliveries arrive daily, and the stall supplies households as well as restaurants, pubs, and schools well beyond York. It stands as the city's longest-running fishmonger, still trading from the same corner of the market.
