Hiraeth opened in 2024 in Plynlimon House on Long Bridge Street in Llanidloes, a Grade II listed building that previously housed a butcher's shop. Founders Karleene Evans and Yvonne Russell-Jones run it as a combined coffee house and kitchen, serving breakfast through to evening meals Tuesday to Saturday, with lunch service from Wednesday. The breakfast menu uses bacon and black pudding from The Prized Pig, a heritage-breed eco-butcher, alongside a wider kitchen menu that has included burgers and daily specials. A small retail area near the entrance sells local products alongside gifts. The building's original butcher's fittings and Long Bridge Street frontage remain visible inside, giving the coffee house a different character to the town's other cafés. Hiraeth has built a strong early reputation locally, rated 4.4 out of 5 on Tripadvisor within its first two years of trading and ranked among the town's better-reviewed places to eat.
