Lace Market Theatre grew out of two amateur dramatic societies founded in the 1920s, which merged in 1946 before members bought a derelict paint store on Halifax Place and converted it into a working theatre by 1972. The volunteer-run charity still stages a full season of plays across its 118-seat auditorium.
