Liminal Gallery

Louise Fitzjohn started Liminal Gallery as a nomadic, digital-only project in April 2021 before opening this permanent space on Fort Hill, opposite Turner Contemporary, in October 2022. The programme favours women artists and others under-represented in the gallery system, mixing solo shows with group exhibitions drawn from across the UK and Ireland. In 2023 the gallery expanded into a second room, The Cupboard, which gives local artists a free three-month residency to show new work without the usual costs of hiring space. Exhibitions change regularly and the gallery keeps a deliberately small footprint, with opening hours limited to three days a week and appointments available for anyone wanting to visit outside them.
