Hollie Reid and Rachel Morgan opened Lovecrumbs on West Port in 2012, just up from the Grassmarket, and made a small quirk-filled room — mismatched china, cake displayed in an old wooden cabinet — into one of the city's best-loved baking cafés. The seriousness hides behind the whimsy: bread from a Musselburgh bakery, organic milk from an Ayrshire farm, coffee from Glasgow's Papercup, and cakes that earn the queue. West Port has spent a decade shedding its old reputation for something more like this; Lovecrumbs was among the first to make the argument, one slice at a time.
