Platform 3 occupies what was originally the public bar of the hotel next door to Linlithgow railway station, taking its name from its position on the station approach. The bar was bought and renovated as a pub in its own right in 1998, and has been run independently by Ian and Anne Gibson since 2002. It has held a place in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide for over twenty consecutive years, was named Forth Valley CAMRA's Pub of the Year in 2019, and became Linlithgow's first Cask Marque-accredited pub, a status it has now held for seventeen consecutive years. The bar stocks a rotating selection of real ales alongside more than forty-five whisky malts and locally distilled Linlithgow gin, with filled rolls available at lunchtime from a nearby cafe. Platform 3 hosts monthly live music and a first-Thursday charity quiz night, and opens daily from mid-morning. It is a free house rather than a brewery-tied pub.
