Potters Barn occupies a converted barn on Church Street in Ribchester, close to the site of the Roman fort, and has run as an independent cafe since around 2014. The kitchen bakes its own bread and cakes and serves homemade soups, salads and lunches with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, alongside fair-trade tea and coffee. A log fire burns in the barn through colder months and there is a garden for outdoor seating. The cafe also operates as a pottery-painting studio, where customers choose a blank ceramic piece and glaze it on site, and stocks a gift shop selling work from other small makers. It holds a licence to serve beer, cider and wine. Potters Barn won the Lancashire Life Best Tearoom award in 2017 and has kept a five-star food hygiene rating. It opens seven days a week and remains independently owned rather than part of a chain.
