Rachel Fooks has worked with clay for more than twenty years from her studio at Furzebrook Studios, an artists' community on Furzebrook Road outside Wareham, next to Stoborough Heath. Every piece she makes is a one-off, built from studying the coastal formations, heathland and woodland of the surrounding Purbeck landscape rather than working to a repeated design. She uses locally sourced clay and plant-based glazes where she can, and runs outdoor raku firings alongside her regular indoor sessions. Weekly classes cover both wheel-throwing and hand-building for all abilities, and Fooks also takes half-day and full-day bookings, including group sessions for birthdays, hen parties and stag do's. Her studio is described as warm, bright and airy, set within a wider community of painters, potters and other makers at Furzebrook.
