Scudamore's Punting operates from Granta Place on Mill Lane, at the point where the River Cam passes behind the Anchor pub and under Silver Street bridge. Jack Scudamore established a boatyard on this stretch of the river in the early 1900s and is credited with turning recreational punting into a Cambridge tradition; the present company was incorporated in 1993 and still operates from the same riverbank. It offers chauffeured punt tours, with a guide who points out the colleges and bridges along the Backs, as well as self-hire punts for visitors wanting to pole their own boat. Themed trips, including afternoon tea on the water and evening tours, run alongside the standard sightseeing route. Bookings can be made on the day at the riverside kiosk or in advance online, and life jackets are provided for all passengers.
