The Cambridge Blue on Gwydir Street has operated as a free house for decades, unattached to any brewery and free to choose its own beer. Up to fourteen real ales are on at any time alongside twelve keg beers and seven real ciders, with one of the city's largest selections of Belgian Trappist bottles and a whisky list running past seventy single malts. The pub has twice been named Cambridge's cider and perry pub of the year, in 2012 and 2016, by the local CAMRA branch. A long garden runs behind the bar, filled with mismatched tables, and the kitchen is now run by Wonky Kitchens, a separate local food company serving a daily changing menu that includes a Sunday roast.
