Simon Fraser opened Hot Numbers on Gwydir Street in 2011, setting up inside a former Victorian building at Dale's Brewery just off Mill Road. The cafe roasts its own beans on site in a micro-roastery, serving single-origin coffee alongside brunch dishes, pastries baked in house and cakes from Afternoon Tease. Jazz and blues records play through the day, a nod to the record shop on Kingston Street that gave the business its name. A second branch on Trumpington Street opened in 2014 for barista training, and roasting later moved to a dedicated site in Shepreth, but Gwydir Street remains the original coffee shop. Doors open daily from 7am to 5pm. Hot Numbers also runs a Roast & Post subscription, sending fresh-roasted beans to customers by courier.
