The Feather Star atthe Red Lion

Jo and her business partner closed their original Feather Star micropub, a former antiques shop on St John Street, and took on the lease of the Red Lion in Wirksworth's Market Place in May 2021, moving their ale house and vinyl record shop into its main bar. Five cask ales from regional breweries share counter space with up to thirteen rotating keg lines and five real ciders, while racks of secondhand and reissued vinyl continue the business's record-shop side under its own Feather Star label. Upstairs, the Haarlem Artspace gallery and a function room host jazz jams on the fourth Tuesday of the month, alongside synth nights and comedy evenings. The building keeps six guest bedrooms and a wood-burning stove, and the operators describe their heating and energy use as carbon neutral.
