A local couple opened the Grove in a former menswear shop in November 1978, and the ownership has passed like a well-kept allotment ever since — a rare-book-loving solicitor for a decade, then Kevin Ramage from 2002, and now his younger brother Chris, with Kevin's other bookselling interests up in Scotland noted for completeness. Ilkley sustains one of the country's better literature festivals and the shop stocks like it knows it, with Faber among the publishers to have named it an independent bookshop of the month.
