Built in 1888 as a show house for McKenna's Brewery and never meaningfully improved upon: a barrel-vaulted ceramic ceiling, glazed tile walls, a decorative frieze naming the drinks and a mosaic floor that slopes famously toward the bar — CAMRA rates the interior of outstanding national historic importance, and Historic England lists it Grade II. Marble Brewery was founded in the back rooms in 1997 by Jan Rogers and made the pub its flagship; the brewing moved off-site long ago and Joe Ince, her son, now leads it as head brewer, with the Arch still the first place every Marble beer lands. Manchester's food and drink awards named it pub of the year in 2023, and in late 2025 the city was arguing about a tower proposed to loom over it — the pub, as usual, expected to outlast the argument.
