Sam Terris Taylor and Melissa Gage opened The Pearl in November 2023 after raising the initial funds through a Kickstarter campaign, converting a former computer shop on Bury New Road into a small dining room. The kitchen, now led by head chef Matt Bennett, works with producers from across the British Isles and changes the menu with the seasons, running a dedicated bavette steak-frites special on Thursdays and a set Sunday lunch. Taylor previously ran a sandwich pop-up called San San before turning to full-service dining. The restaurant appeared in the Good Food Guide's list of 100 Best Local Restaurants for 2024, recognition that followed rather than preceded the couple's decision to open in Prestwich village rather than the city centre.
