The Wallingford Bookshop has traded from St Martin's Street since 1983, when Mary Ingrams first opened it; it is now owned by Helen Longworth and run as Wallingford Bookshop Limited. The shop holds around 6,000 titles on its shelves and will order in anything it doesn't stock, usually ready for collection the next working day. Alongside general fiction and non-fiction, the shop keeps signed editions, audiobooks and a section of books with local or regional interest, and staff work with schools in the area on book fairs and library selections. It opens six days a week, Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 5pm, with staff offering recommendations and special-order help rather than self-service browsing alone. The shop remains independent of any chain, run from a single site in the town centre.
