Bench opened at 7B Nether Edge Road in autumn 2020, run by drinks specialist Jack Wakelin and chef Tom Aronica after three sold-out pop-up nights around Sheffield. The room is built around communal dining, with bar and kitchen sharing one space rather than being kept apart, and a menu of seasonal small plates matched to a natural wine list and a cocktail programme. A retail corner sells take-home bottles and produce alongside the sit-down menu. The pair have since opened a second site, Bench La Cave, that runs as a daytime bakery and evening wine bar nearby. The Nether Edge restaurant keeps to a tight schedule, closed across Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, concentrating trade into a shorter working week.
