Caldicott's Nursery has been run by three generations of the Caldicott family on the same plot by the River Blythe in Solihull for close to a hundred years, having started out as an orchard and livestock farm before the family began growing tomatoes, cucumbers and chrysanthemums under glass for sale around Birmingham and Solihull. The business now combines a pick-your-own fruit field with a farm shop selling bedding plants, hanging baskets, shrubs and seasonal produce. Picking runs from around mid-June through October, starting with strawberries, raspberries, currants and gooseberries in early summer and moving on to plums and then apples as the season progresses, with the exact fruits available changing week to week. The pick-your-own field opens at 10am with last entry at 5pm and needs no advance booking. The nursery is close to Widney Manor station, on the edge of the built-up part of Solihull, and remains a working greenhouse and growing operation alongside its retail side.
