The Grassic Gibbon Centre in Arbuthnott, near Laurencekirk, is a community charity opened in 1991 to honour the writer Lewis Grassic Gibbon, pen name of James Leslie Mitchell, who grew up in the parish. Run by a voluntary board, it holds his manuscripts and personal effects alongside a cafe and Post Office counter.
