Grindleford Station Cafe occupies the original booking hall and platform buildings of the former Grindleford railway station at Upper Padley, at the foot of Padley Gorge. Phil bought the cafe in 1973, funding the purchase in part from proceeds of a hot dog van, and ran it with his wife Margaret for over four decades, adding customer toilets and extra seating as trade grew. It remains a family-run business serving walkers heading onto the Peak District's gritstone edges and cyclists using the nearby Monsal Trail, alongside regulars from Sheffield and the Hope Valley. The menu covers cooked breakfasts, chip butties, bacon rolls and homemade cakes, with food cooked to order rather than pre-prepared. Spring water piped from the hillside above the old station is also sold under the cafe's name. Now in its sixth decade under the same family, the cafe has kept its plain, functional style even as visitor numbers to the surrounding countryside have grown.
