The King's Head occupies a corner of Huddersfield railway station, a Grade I listed building, and was restored over more than two years at a cost of around 200,000 pounds by former landlord Bruce Travis, who uncovered an original mosaic tiled floor that had lain hidden under carpet for decades. The restoration won the craft skills category at the National Railway Heritage Awards in 2017. The pub keeps three permanent cask ales alongside several rotating guest beers from breweries near and far, plus a mild, a dark beer and a real cider, served in rooms furnished with wood panelling and wood-burning stoves. Travis, a former solicitor turned publican, died in 2022 after running the pub for over a decade, but it continues trading as a real ale house on the station concourse, with live music on Sunday afternoons and long-standing regulars, some recalling drinking there since the 1940s.
