Ladybird Nurseries was established in 1960 by Arthur and Betty Booker, who set out to build a nursery on a site down a lane outside Snape, a ten-minute drive from the Suffolk coast. Arthur and Betty retired at the end of 1999, handing the business to Bob and Maggie, and it is now run by the third generation, Angela and her husband Paul, who joined bringing further business expertise to the family firm. Over 90 percent of the plants sold on site are grown there rather than bought in, spanning trees, shrubs and perennials alongside garden sundries. The single-site nursery has grown from modest beginnings with basic equipment into the family's main business, still worked from the same Gromford Lane plot outside Snape.
