MOMA Machynlleth occupies Y Tabernacl, a former Wesleyan chapel on Heol Penrallt converted into an arts centre in 1986. The building holds seven exhibition galleries and a 325-seat auditorium used for concerts, lectures and the annual Gŵyl Machynlleth festival each August. A charitable trust runs the venue and has built a permanent collection of more than 400 works by artists who have lived or worked in Wales since 1900, alongside a programme of temporary exhibitions of contemporary Welsh and international art. The August Tabernacle Art Competition invites public entries judged by visiting artists, shown alongside the main collection. Gallery admission is free and does not require booking; the venue also hosts family workshops, cinema screenings and chamber and choral music through the year. The galleries sit within the converted chapel building in the town centre and are open Tuesday to Saturday, with shorter hours on Saturday and closure on Sunday and Monday.
