Gwen is a tasting-menu restaurant on Machynlleth's Maengwyn Street from chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, who previously ran the Michelin-starred Casamia in Bristol. Just eight diners are seated per service, watching from a counter as the kitchen sends out around twenty small courses built on his Spanish heritage and Mexican influences, using produce from mid-Wales growers and further afield. The format is closer to a chef's-table experience than a conventional restaurant, with two open kitchens and a single nightly sitting. Named after the Welsh word, the venture marked Sanchez-Iglesias's move from Bristol to the Dyfi valley. Bookings are released in limited batches and the menu changes with the seasons. It is an independent, owner-run operation rather than part of any group.
