Stewart Wright opened Nuovo on Abington Street in December 2014, having already built a following in the town with Papa Cino's and Sophia's. The restaurant serves cicchetti, small plates drawn from Venetian bacaro culture, alongside a cocktail list and an Italian-only wine selection. Head chef Scott Williams runs the kitchen, and the restaurant holds an AA Rosette, awarded in October 2019, for the standard of cooking. The room sits at the top end of Abington Street in a converted town-centre unit, with an open pass so diners can watch small plates being finished before they reach the table. Dishes are designed for sharing across a table rather than one course each, and the wine list is chosen specifically to match the range of Italian regional dishes on the menu, including gluten-free and vegan options.
