Pen'rallt Gallery Bookshop has traded on Heol Penrallt in Machynlleth since around 2011, run by Diane Bailey and Geoff Young, who chose the site for its proximity to the MOMA Machynlleth gallery and the town's railway station. The stock favours photography and art books, politics, and Welsh writers in both languages, chosen because the owners find them interesting rather than because they sell quickly; before the pandemic, roughly half the shelves held second-hand titles. Neither owner drives, so book deliveries around town go out on foot or by bicycle. Bailey, who trained in visual display, changes the shop window regularly, treating it as community engagement rather than simple advertising. The pair also contribute photography to the Welsh-language literary newspaper O'r Pedwar Gwynt.
