Potts Bakers has been baking in Barnsley since 1891, making it one of the longer-established family bakeries in South Yorkshire. The bakery produces bread and teacakes in white and wholemeal, alongside cakes, slices, scones, buns and seasonal lines such as gingerbread and mince pies at Christmas. Rather than running its own chain of shops, Potts sells directly from a stall on Barnsley Market, open Monday to Saturday, and supplies independent shops, supermarkets, schools and caterers across the wider region. The business has stayed in family hands through multiple generations, continuing traditional recipes and methods rather than switching to large-scale industrial production. For a bakery of its age, its output remains rooted in the original Stairfoot premises rather than being outsourced or franchised elsewhere.
