Anne bakes everything served at Runswick Bay Tea Garden herself, from lemon drizzle and ginger and pecan cake to a plum and almond tart that regulars ask for by name. The tea garden sits at the top of the cliff at Runswick Bay, opposite the bus stop, with a pond, a small waterfall and flower borders providing the backdrop for sandwiches and toasties made to order. It stays open until six in the evening, later than most tea rooms on this stretch of coast, catching walkers coming off the cliff path after the day trippers have gone home. The garden setting rather than the building is the draw, with tables set among the flowerbeds whenever the weather allows.
