Fiona Sharkey's family has run Sharkey's Bar since 1991, inside a railway arch beneath the Gorbals viaduct on Old Rutherglen Road. The pub is one of only two left trading in the Gorbals proper, an area that once held dozens, and keeps an Irish-leaning identity with regular folk and traditional music sessions. Tennent's and Guinness dominate the taps, and the kitchen serves lunchtime and evening pub meals at modest prices. The arch itself was built in 1871 for the City of Glasgow Union Railway, which once carried trains to the long-closed St Enoch Station, and the pub has held the same premises under Network Rail's ownership of the structure since the Sharkey family took over.
