Sugarcane trades from Unit 2 on The Square in Comber, opened in 2006 by husband and wife Peter and Emma McCleery. The couple built the menu around dishes picked up travelling, giving the café a European lean alongside standard Ulster breakfast staples, and scones are baked fresh on the premises each morning. Daytime service runs a full breakfast and lunch menu seven days a week, switching to a bistro menu from five in the evening Wednesday through Sunday, with last orders around nine on the later nights. The dining room sits within a converted unit on the historic square at the centre of Comber, a short walk from the town's Georgian buildings. Sugarcane remains independently owned and run by the McCleerys rather than operating under a wider restaurant group, with the same family behind the till since opening.
