Peter Bracewell had been thinking about setting up a gin distillery since around 2019, but the cost of proper equipment kept the idea on hold until lockdown made a small still briefly affordable. He set it up on the mezzanine above his parents-in-law's garage and began experimenting there before the venture found its current home on this unit at the Shearway Business Park. The distillery now produces two gins under the Beach Buoys name, a coastal dry gin and a coastal aromatic version, both built around botanicals intended to evoke the nearby seafront. Visitors can book a taproom session that includes guided tastings and an explanation of the distillation process, from mash to bottling, run by staff familiar with each stage of the operation.
