Karen and Malcolm Twist gave up a top-end hair salon in south London to open The Laindons in 2017, converting a Georgian former coach house on Hastings Old Town's High Street into a six-room guesthouse. Each room is individually decorated and named for its colour scheme, with premium linen, bath products and small extras such as ear plugs and sewing kits left for guests. Karen cooks breakfast herself, including homemade granola and yoghurt, and a sitting room holds an honesty bar and a communal fridge stocked with milk and water. The couple describe the result as a style-led escape within a town more used to modest bed and breakfasts, and reviews consistently single out the couple's own welcome as much as the rooms. High ceilings and other Georgian details survive from the building's earlier life as a coach house.
