Free house on Smarts Lane in Loughton, in a building dating to about 1865, owned and run by James Stuchfield since 2005. There is no music, no television and no fruit machine. Cask ales are kept alongside bottled beers and lagers, and food is served at lunch and in the evening on weekdays, and through the middle of the day on Sundays.
