Thrown TogetherPottery

Thrown Together Pottery runs from a small studio on Fawcett Street in Sunniside, sharing the creative quarter around the restored Athenaeum building with Abject Gallery and Pilgrim Studios. The workshop teaches wheel-throwing and hand-building to beginners and returning students, with sessions structured around single tasters as well as short courses that take a piece from raw clay through to a finished, glazed object. Classes run in small groups so that each student gets time on the wheel rather than watching a demonstration from the back of the room. Finished work is fired and glazed on site before collection, usually within a couple of weeks. The studio sits alongside several other artist-run spaces in the same building, part of a wider effort to bring working craft studios back into Sunderland's Sunniside quarter.
