Tricky Cider was founded in 2004 by Steve Watkins and Alistair Brice, taking its name from Trickey Warren on the Blackdown Hills, site of the wartime RAF Culmhead airfield. Matt Gillett, who grew up nearby in Taunton and had worked as an automotive engineer, bought into the business in 2018 and became sole owner in 2019. In 2023 he moved production to its current single site at Netherham Farm, Low Ham, near Langport, closer to the orchards that supply it. The cider is pressed from whole apples rather than concentrate and fermented with natural airborne yeasts, without additives or artificial sweeteners; fruit ciders are made using homemade cordials. Labels carry artwork by Miranda Benzies, with a share of profits directed to a charitable fund supporting young people. The business sources fruit from Somerset's declining heritage orchards.
