West Street Alehouse opened on Fareham's main shopping street in June 2019, the work of Kat and Steve, who met while working in a coffee shop chain along the south coast before deciding to run a pub of their own. It was Fareham's first micropub, a single narrow room built around two rotating cask ales, up to ten craft beers and up to four ciders, chalked up on a screen rather than a printed list. There is no kitchen: regulars bring in takeaways from nearby shops and are handed plates and cutlery at the bar. The pub keeps no music playing, which suits a room built for conversation over quick turnover. It runs as a free house, unattached to any brewery, and takes card payment only.
