Whitby Distillery

Jessica Slater, born in Whitby, and Luke Pentith started this distillery in 2017 after a camping trip to the Outer Hebrides left them wanting to make gin themselves. The first bottles were produced in the utility room at Luke's parents' house before the business grew into its current shop and still at 8 Botany Way. Their gin uses heather foraged from the North York Moors, sugar kelp from Seagrown in Scarborough, and local honey, and won bronze at the World Gin Awards in 2020. Visitors can book a one-hour tour of the still and tasting room. The pair are now raising crowdfunding to convert farm barns near Whitby Abbey into a larger distillery and visitor centre.
