Whitethorn is a seventeenth-century farmhouse on Watery Lane in Astbury, just outside Congleton, run by the Ward family alongside their working arable farm and let as a bed and breakfast by owner Jo. Five guest rooms are spread through the house and its outbuildings, from the third-floor Beechwood and Blue Bell Wood rooms to the larger Tall Trees room with its super king bed, each decorated in a plain country style rather than anything overly formal. Breakfast is included and served in a dining room large enough to double as space for small working lunches. Guests have use of an outdoor swimming pool and a garden bordered by the farm's fields, with walking routes leading out directly from the property. Astbury's golf club and fishing pools are within easy reach on foot.
