Cheese Hamlet

Cheese Hamlet began trading in Chorlton in 1960 as a bakery, then moved to its current shop on Wilmslow Road in Didsbury in 1972 and shifted its focus to cheese and fine food. The family-run shop now stocks between 180 and 200 cheeses alongside cured meats, coffee, and store-cupboard goods, drawn from roughly 1,500 lines in total. Staff member John runs cheese consultations for customers planning a board or a wedding cheese cake made from stacked truckles rather than sponge. The business has been named Speciality Cheese Retailer of the Year three years running and has picked up Delicatessen of the Year more than once. It is a founding member of the Guild of Fine Food and sits on the committee of the Specialist Cheesemakers Association.
