Christopher and George Dagley, father and son, set up as jewellers in Cardiff in 1979, and the shop in Queens Arcade is still family-run — one of the last independent jewellers left in a city centre given over to the chains. Two goldsmiths work at the bench on the premises, which is the point of the place: rings and pieces made and repaired by hand, to commission, rather than pulled from a supplier's catalogue. In an arcade city, it keeps a real workshop where a real workshop belongs. The kind of jeweller you go to when the piece matters and the making should show.
