Cunningham's FamilyButcher

Michael Cunningham took over the Walker Road butcher's shop in March 2022, renaming premises that had traded as Hamilton's for decades and putting his own name and recipes on the counter. The shop sells beef, lamb, pork and chicken from the case alongside own-recipe sausages, black pudding, cooked meats and a hot food takeaway counter for pies and rolls. Within six months of reopening under the new name, the business won Best New Food Business at an Ayrshire food awards ceremony. Cunningham also takes a stall to farmers' markets around the country, selling the same range found in the Ayr shop. Meat packs are made up to order in a range of sizes, and the shop keeps the trading pattern of an established neighbourhood butcher rather than a supermarket counter.
