Laurence Hood is a traditional family butcher on The Cross in the middle of Prestwick, trading on the same spot for close to a century and run for around forty years by its current owner. The counter carries locally sourced beef, lamb and pork cut to order, with fresh farm eggs and potatoes among the everyday stock. Much of the appeal is in the shop's own kitchen work: steak pies, mince rounds, Scotch pies, sausages, burgers, cooked and potted meats, black pudding and its own haggis are all made in-house. It stays a single independent shop rather than a branch of a larger firm, serving Prestwick regulars and drawing customers from further across Ayrshire for the pies and haggis in particular. There is no website; ordering is done in person or by phone at the counter.
